1. Easily add content to your website:
You probably heard this 1 Million times -”Content is King when it comes to the search engines.” I cannot emphasize this enough.
Adding content to your WordPress Website is as easy as logging in, typing your post, adding a keyword-rich title and hit the publish button.
The other added benefit to a WordPress site is the “WYSIWYG” editor or “what you see is what you get.” The editor is how you add content to your pages and posts.
The WordPress editor is very similar to using a word document. This makes it very easy to optimize the content for the on-page SEO factors you need.
Things like adding your keyword at the beginning of your page title, adding a H1 tag to your page title, bolding your keywords, adding links so you can internally link within the pages of your post.
So, optimizing your on-page SEO is very easily done with WordPress.
2. WordPress is Open Source software:
Open Source means it’s free to download. You want to go to WordPress.org and download the software for free. You don’t want WordPress.com.
You will NOT own the domain if you go to WordPress.com. So, you want WordPress.org so you could set your WordPress blog or site on your own server and have your own domain. This is a big distinction between the two platforms.
Open source also means there are tons smart programmers and developers out there, always working on WordPress making it better. They keep it up to date making it SEO friendly.
So you are benefiting from this as a business owner. All those smart programmers constantly working on the software, making it better for you and your business.
3. Customizable Permalinks:
A permalinks is the way your URL looks. For instance, my blog is called “SEO News” on my website. So the URL looks like this: manfredk.com/SEO-news.
The name of this blog post is manfredk.com/wordpress-seo-benefits ( Notice how I have all my best keywords in the URL?)
So, as you can see, what I’m able to do there is put my good keywords in the URL of my pages and posts. This way Google finds those keywords in my URL and will hopefully rank my post for those keywords
So, you can do this in WordPress- customize your URLs – getting rid of stop words such as “the, for, and to” – and just have your best keywords in the URL.
4. Clean website code:
WordPress typically comes with very clean code. The exception are the free themes for WordPress. I would not recommend building a business website using a free WordPress theme.
Some developers build these themes for free and hide links in the code linking back to their website. You never know what kind of link you’ll have in one of those free WordPress templates.
Suppose you ran a childcare or daycare center. If your website was built using a free WordPress theme you might have some links coming from your site to an inappropriate website and you wont even know it.
It would look bad for your business and Google may penalize you for this in the rankings. So, I really recommend buying a premium WordPress theme.
5. Easily creates SEO friendly website architecture:
With WordPress, its easy to create pages on your website and posts and then categorize your posts using categories and tags.
So, its very easy to set up and map out your website with WordPress and you can change things around as you need. It’s also easy to interlink in-between any pages and posts.
6. RSS Feeds.
WordPress comes with built-in RSS feed. A RSS feed stands for Really Simple Syndication.
What that means is when you publish a WordPress post, not a page – page do not come with RSS Feed, your blog post too – they will get syndicated to other feed directories.
So, your content can go on to a feed directory with a link coming back to your site. RSS Feeds also allows your readers to subscribe to your feed. This way they can read your blog as you post new content. They will be alerted each time you post new content.
So, the RSS Feed is very powerful SEO tool built into WordPress.
7. Allows you to easily install Google analytics, submit and verify your site to Google Webmaster Tools and add a site map to your website:
All three things very important for SEO
Of course, you can’t do SEO unless you gonna measure the results. Google Analytics does a good job of this.
Google Webmaster Tools verifies site ownership and they give a lot of great information about how Google sees your website. Things like pages blocking the search engines, broken links, what keywords you are renaming for and how often people are clicking on your site in the SERPS.
A site map is basically a map to all different pages and links on your website. This allows Google to easily crawl all the page of your website.
8. Auto Pinging:
Pinging is basically ringing the dinner bell for search engines to say, “Hey, I’ve just put brand new content on my site. Come read it, index it and put me up in the internet.
So, anytime you write a post, it automatically pings various search engines and directories and calls the search engines like Google to visit your site and crawl your new content.
WordPress has a built in function to automatically ping search engines, blog directories and RSS feed sites.
9. WordPress Comments:
Your readers can interact with your business by adding comments.
So, if you are doing a blog post, its really two way communication. That’s really what web 2.0 is – back and forth communication with your buyers. And in the 1.0 days, you couldn’t communicate with your buyers.
Now, with web 2.0, your buyers can leave comments and interact with you. This allows you to intact with your prospects.
The other thing is a lot of times as you get more comments, it will obviously add more content to your posts. Typically those comments come with great keywords so it will go a long way in helping your rankings in the search engines.
10. Easily optimize images for SEO:
After adding an image to your blog page or post, you’re given a little menu widow. Inside this window you can add an image title and the image alt text.
As you recall, Google can’t read images. Google has no way of knowing what an image is. So, adding your image title and your alt text gives you another way to add your keywords and help Google identify the image.
11. WordPress Plugins:
Plugins are one of the best reasons to use WordPress. ( I give you my favorite SEO WordPress Plugins here)
WordPress plug-ins are basically ways to add functionality to your website. In the old days, before WordPress, you would have to hire a programmer or coder to create these added functions to your website.
Now, with WordPress, you can easily search online for anything you’re trying to do with your website and there’s probably a plug-in for it.
Some of my favorite WordPress plugins for the SEO are:
All in one SEO Pack-Easily allows you to add title tags, meta descriptions etc…
CBnet Ping Optimizer– Keeps your blog from ping too much so you don’t get banned for ping spam.
Redirection plug-in –This is a plugin if broken link on your site, if you move a page or change a url. The redirection plug-in easily allows you to put in the target URL and then redirect URL right inside WordPress. Google doesn’t like to find broken links, so, this will help you fix this problem.
Google Analytics for WordPress and XML Sitemap plugin– You discovered Google Analytics and XML sites maps are important for SEO. Well, these little plug-ins, all you have to do is copy and paste and a little step on the code, and your Google analytics will hook up like that. You don’t need any programming and coding. Anyone can do it and your XML site maps, you just push the button and it will create a site map for you. And that’s pretty much it.
So, there you have it, some of the top SEO benefits of using WordPress as your primary website.
Add as many Pages as you like
You can add any number of pages to your website and add blogs and new content any time you want. No restrictions and no extra charges.
Small-scale business enterprises will not be able to handle the expenses of running a full-fledged website. This problem is solved with WordPress. So if you are looking for a cost-effective website, go WordPress.
